Government Urges to Remain Vigilant Even Though Corona Conditions in Some Areas Are Improving

Terkini.Id, Jakarta – The government urges the government to remain vigilant even though the corona condition in some areas is improving. The government appealed to the public to remain vigilant following the decision to relax restrictions on public activities in several areas. The public is also advised to adhere to health protocols and prioritize vaccination.

“We have seen improving conditions in many areas, both inside and outside Java and Bali. The government is adjusting the PPKM level in the hope that the restrictions will be in line with the new normal,” said Minister of Communications and Information Johnny G Plate in his official statement to reporters in Indonesia, Sunday, August 29, 2021.

As is known, the government decided to continue PPKM levels 4, 3 and 2 throughout the country on Monday, August 30, 2021. The restrictions will last for another week in Java and Bali and two weeks outside Java and Bali.

The government itself has relaxed the level of restrictions in several areas, including Jabodetabek, Bandung Raya, and Surabaya Raya, from level 4 to 3. Meanwhile, Bali, Malang Raya, Surakarta and Yogyakarta are still below PPKM level 4.

The government expects the region’s level 4 status to decrease to level 3 within a few weeks, but in a state of continuous improvement, including an increase in the number of recovered patients and a decrease in the death toll. With the new adjustment, the number of districts/cities in Java and Bali under PPKM level 4 was reduced from 67 to 51.

Meanwhile, the number of districts/cities under PPKM level 3 increased from 59 to 67. The upward trend continued with the number of level 2 regions increasing from two districts/cities to 10. As for areas outside Java and Bali, the restrictions were extended until September 6, 2021.

Along with the decline in the number of active cases, until now the number of level 4 has also decreased from 11 provinces to four. At the district level, the number decreased from 132 districts/cities to 104. The number of tier 3 districts/cities increased from 215 to 234, while the number of tier 2 districts/cities increased from 39 to 48.

Johnny said the restrictions would be extended to control public activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We need to high light, we have made progress during the restrictions. The community’s proactive role is highly appreciated,” said Johnny.

From the peak of cases on July 15, 2021, the number of confirmed positive cases has decreased by 78 percent. Patient recovery has consistently improved, exceeding the number of confirmed positive cases in recent weeks.

This has contributed to the decline in the national bed occupancy rate (BOR) which currently stands at 33 percent. Last week, the government opened social activities in several big cities.

Some areas under PPKM level 4 are allowed to carry out trading activities that sell non-staple food commodities in traditional markets. Shopping centers and restaurants are allowed to operate with limited capacity. Religious activities are also allowed with a limited capacity.

Areas under PPKM levels 3 and 2 have been allowed to open schools for learning activities.

“We expect cooperation from all stakeholders related to the adjustment of social restrictions, including maintaining discipline in complying with health protocols, especially in the use of masks,” said Johnny.

According to him, the acceleration and expansion of vaccination also requires public participation. Referring to President Joko Widodo’s previous statement, his party hopes to meet the vaccination target of 100 million doses by the end of this month.
